Orbitel launches WiMAX in Medellín
Orbitel, the Colombian
long distance operator owned by EPM (Une
Telecomunicaciones), has announced the launch of
WiMAX services in Medellín, writes BNamericas.
Orbitel has invested USD35 million in the roll
out of wireless broadband infrastructure this
year, first launching in Cali then subsequently
in Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Cucutá.
The Medellín launch will reportedly happen in
several phases; the tel co claims to have
already installed 18 base stations and expects
to add a further 26 in the first half of 2007.
By the end of 2007 the company expects to have
WiMAX services in twelve cities, with 10% of its
revenue coming from such services.
