The Museum is located on the grounds of La Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino (see above), and was designed by famous architect Carlos Peoenza Lanao. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art features three permanent exhibition halls, plus a Greek style theater.
The idea of creating a Museum at La Quinta is credited to artist Armando Villegas, who in 1986, received unanimous endorsement and support from other leading artists throughout all of the Bolivarian countries (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Panama) in a united effort to honor Simon Bolivar, the Liberator. The Museum displays more than 170 paintings, sculptures, engravings and drawings of famous artists from the Bolivarian countries.
